Sustainable Forest Management
Quebracho Colorado and Eucalyptus
Institutional commitment
Unitán reaffirms its commitment to sustainable forest management, integrating economic, social, and environmental criteria throughout its operation. The company promotes a productive model that combines industrial efficiency with environmental regeneration, supporting biodiversity conservation.
This approach is aligned with international standards and the growing demands of global markets regarding sustainability, traceability, and ESG compliance.
Forested area and productive base
Currently, Unitán has over 3,000 forested hectares in the provinces of Chaco and Formosa, with over 4.5 million trees planted.
The forest base is mainly composed of Quebracho Colorado, a key native species, complemented by Eucalyptus (Cloeziana and other hybrids), which ensures sustainable supply, productive diversification, and efficiency in resource use.
Expansion projection
Unitán maintains a sustained reforestation plan, incorporating plantations every year.
The goal is to reach 10 million trees in the medium term, consolidating a renewable, traceable forest platform aligned with international standards.
Certifications and international standards
The company operates under globally recognized frameworks that guarantee the traceability, transparency, and sustainability of its operations.
These include the VCS (Verified Carbon Standard) standard under Verra certification, as well as alignment with international initiatives such as ZDHC and emerging European requirements related to the Digital Product Passport (DPP).
Carbon capture
Through its forest model, Unitán actively contributes to the mitigation of GHG emissions.
The certified carbon project is estimated to capture more than 330,000 tonnes of CO₂, generating Verified Carbon Units (VCUs) and strengthening the value proposition for clients committed to reducing their environmental footprint.
Regenerative model and innovation
UNITÁN's approach goes beyond traditional reforestation, incorporating a regenerative model based on:
- Silvopastoral systems.
- Beekeeping production.
- Grass management for soil improvement.
- Use of compost.
Additionally, the company supports innovative projects such as those by Eiru and Reforest Latam, integrating technologies such as biodiversity measurement and monitoring, precision planting using drones to improve germination rates, or restoration of degraded areas.
Renewable energy and efficiency
Unitán operates a 9 MW renewable energy plant in Puerto Tirol, based on forest biomass.
Social impact and local development
Unitán's management model promotes the development of its local communities through the creation of quality employment, continuous training, internships, scholarships, and support for educational institutions.
The company actively works with its value chain and stakeholders, driving comprehensive and sustainable growth in the regions where it operates.
